I have been unable to write. I know what has been stopping me: I am so very horrified with what is going on in our country that I feel that I am screaming and cannot stop.
I think I have snapped out of it, however. A friend referred me to the link below. I have embraced its message since one of my screams has been about “Evangelicals” and their support of cruelty, hatred, and opulence in this country (yes, you, Scott Pruitt, by way of example).
So I have taken comfort in this: http://www.reclaimingjesus.org.
It actually reminded me of Daniel Chapter 9 (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Daniel+9&version=KJV) when Daniel realizes, after consulting the words of Jeremiah’s prophecy (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Jeremiah+25%3A11&version=KJV), that the end of captivity for the Israelites in Babylon was about to come to an end. In the humble manner which Daniel demonstrated throughout his lifetime, Daniel prays for God’s forgiveness of His people. His words in verse 5 is a summary of his intercessory prayer:
We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments
I have used this chapter as a template for my intercessory prayers of confession and request for forgiveness for the United States. We as a country are culpable for heinous crimes. I am hoping that others will join me in making a commitment to “Reclaiming Jesus” as well as pray for our country and for deliverance from our sins.
